Global dermatology experts who will be joining WCD 2023 to speak about cutaneous disorders and skin problems.
Topic: “Atopic Dermatitis”
Title: “The precision medicine path in Atopic Dermatitis”
Emma Guttman-Yassky, MD, Ph.D. is the system chair of the department of dermatology, and the Waldman Professor of Dermatology and Immunology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York. She is the director of the center for excellence in eczema and the laboratory for inflammatory skin diseases. She earned her M.D. from Sackler School of Medicine at Tel-Aviv University, and a Ph.D. degree from Bar-Ilan University, Israel. After her Israeli Board certification in dermatology in Israel, Dr. Guttman moved to the U.S. to pursue a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at The Rockefeller University in the Laboratory for Investigative Dermatology. Upon completion of her fellowship, she became board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology after a second dermatology residency training at Weill-Cornell Medical College, in NY. Dr. Guttman’s major research focus areas are atopic dermatitis (AD)/eczema and alopecia areata. Her research made paradigm-shifting discoveries on the immunologic basis of AD/eczema in adults and children with atopic dermatitis, enriching the understanding of the pathophysiology of this common disorder, opening the door for novel, pathway-specific drugs in this disease. Recently, Dr. Guttman extended her research interest to hair loss disorders such as alopecia areata and scarring hair loss disorders, chronic hand eczema, keloids, ichthyosis, and other skin diseases, in which her findings are also translated to novel therapeutics. Dr. Guttman co-founded the international Eczema Council (IEC) and is its immediate past president. Dr. Guttman received many national and international awards (e.g., The AAAAI Award for Scientific Innovation and for pioneering discoveries, AAD Young Investigator award, etc.). She was elected as a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation/ASCI, and the American Dermatological Society/ADA. Dr. Gutman is often a keynote and plenary speaker in international and national meetings and authored >275 peer-reviewed publications.
Topic: Skin of Colour
Title: Variations in Genetics, Biology, and Phenotype of Cutaneous Disorders in Skin of Colour.
Susan C. Taylor, MD, FAAD, a Harvard, Columbia and University of Pennsylvania educated physician as well as a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Dermatology, is the Bernett L. Johnson, Jr., Endowed Professor in Dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine. Dr. Taylor has performed pioneering work establishing Skin of Color as a sub-specialty within Dermatology. Her work has focused on advancing clinical knowledge and addressing gaps in research and education regarding skin of color populations. As Vice Chair for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Department of Dermatology, and as former Vice President of the American Academy of Dermatology, she has led education, policy and research initiatives that have invigorated a national dialogue about diversity, health disparities, and skin of color related issues.
Dr. Taylor’s clinical focus encompasses disorders that uniquely or disproportionately affect patients of color including alopecia, scalp disorders, pigmentary disorders, cosmetic and appearance enhancing devices, and cultural competency. She serves as Principal Investigator for Phase II through Phase IV clinical research trials. Dr. Taylor has over 75 original publications and has co-edited two major dermatology textbooks, Dermatology for Skin of Color (McGraw Hill) and Treatment for Skin of Color (Elsevier.)
Dr. Taylor is a former board member of the Skin of Color Society and the Women’s Dermatology Society. She is a member of the American Dermatologic Association.
Topic: “Kerotinocyte skin cancer”
Title: “Keratinocyte cancers: how to win the battle of the clones”
Professor Khosrotehrani is a clinician-scientist, practicing dermatologist with a focus on delivering state of the art concept and technologies to real-world clinical problems. He leads the Experimental Dermatology Group at the University of Queensland Diamantina Institute in Brisbane, Australia and is the deputy director of the Australian Skin and Skin Cancer Research Centre in Brisbane. Prof Khosrotehrani is passionate about the development of academic medicine and future academic clinicians and leads this effort in dermatology as the chair of Academic Research Committee at the Australasian College of Dermatologists, the President of the Australasian Society for Dermatology Research and the co-Editor in Chief of the Australasian Journal of Dermatology and a board member of the International Society for Investigative Dermatology.
Prof Khosrotehrani obtained his MD in Paris, France, where he specialized in Dermatology. He is a former graduate of the Ecole Normale Supérieure and the Institut Pasteur of Paris (Université Paris VI, Pierre et Marie Curie) where he obtained a PhD in Physiology and Physiopathology. He completed his post-doctoral training in stem cell biology and clinical genetics at Tufts-New England Medical Centre in Boston, USA. He is a fellow of the Australian College of Dermatologists and a practising dermatologist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and the Skin and Cancer Foundation’s Queensland Institute of Dermatology. His research is fundamentally based on regenerative medicine concepts applied at basic, translational and clinical levels to melanoma, keratinocyte cancers and skin wounds. The breadth of expertise established in his research team allows the multidisciplinary approach required for these difficult questions. This unique expertise and leadership in research is witnessed by a record of highly cited articles (over 3700 citations, H index 33). The originality of this body of work was acknowledged by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) of Australia through an achievement award (2011) and an NHMRC excellence award (2016).
